Inokim OXO Electric Scooter Review

Introduction

Having spent substantial time with the Inokim OXO electric scooter, I can genuinely say that it stands out as a premier option for both urban commuters and off-road enthusiasts. This scooter strikes an impressive balance between performance and design, making it a versatile choice for a wide range of riders. In this review, I'll delve into my personal experiences with the OXO, covering everything from its powerful dual motors to the comfort of the ride.

Design and Build Quality

Upon unboxing the Inokim OXO, its robust build quality immediately caught my attention. With a sturdy frame constructed from aviation-grade aluminum alloy, it exudes durability. This scooter is a bit on the heavier side at 33 kg (about 73 lbs), which is understandable given its solid construction and powerful hardware. The finish is sleek, with attention to detail that radiates premium craftsmanship.

The folding mechanism is well-designed and feels secure, but it can be a bit stiff initially. Once folded, the scooter is relatively compact, but due to its weight, it's not the most portable option. I'd say the OXO is best for someone with a dedicated storage space close to their starting point or destination.

Performance and Ride Experience

Undoubtedly, the highlight of the OXO is its performance. Dual 1000W brushless motors deliver astonishing power, allowing for a top speed that I found can reach up to 65 km/h (40 mph). This kind of speed is impressive but also demands respect and responsibility — it's important to always wear appropriate safety gear. The acceleration is smooth yet vigorous, and it manages inclines with an ease that lesser scooters simply cannot match.

The scooter comes equipped with dual hydraulic disc brakes that provide decisive and reliable stopping power. When it comes to safety, I can't overemphasize the importance of quality brakes, especially on a scooter capable of such high speeds.

Battery life is a crucial factor for electric scooters, and the OXO doesn't disappoint. Its 60V, 26Ah LG battery offered me an impressive range of approximately 110 km (68 miles) on a single charge, although this can vary with riding conditions and rider weight. While the charging time can be a sizable wait at about 13 hours for a full charge, for day-to-day use, it's unlikely you'll deplete the battery in a single outing.

The adjustable suspension system is a standout feature. With the ability to tweak the settings for urban rides or off-road adventures, I found that the ride comfort is unsurpassed. The large 10-inch pneumatic tires complement the suspension beautifully, absorbing shocks from rough terrain and making the OX ride seem virtually glide over bumps and cracks.

Comfort and Usability

Long rides are a breeze with the OXO, thanks to its expansive deck which provides ample foot space and ensures a comfortable stance. The ergonomic handlebar grips feel natural under my palms, and the controls are intuitive and within easy reach. A minor gripe is that the OXO's display isn't as bright as I'd like, which makes it a bit challenging to see in bright sunlight.

The scooter's lighting system is ample for nighttime riding, featuring bright headlights and taillights. However, for increased visibility and safety, I always recommend adding additional lights and reflective elements.

Additional Features

The OXO doesn't skimp on features. It offers a central display that provides all the necessary information at a glance, including speed, battery level, and distance. There are also different speed modes to cater to varying riding conditions and local speed regulations.

Another aspect worth mentioning is the aesthetics. The Inokim OXO has a unique design language that sets it apart from other scooters in the market. Its sleek lines and modern design will undoubtedly turn heads.

Conclusion

The Inokim OXO is a powerhouse of an electric scooter. Despite its premium price point, it justifies the investment through its unmatched build quality, performance, and comfort. It's perfect for someone looking for a reliable, high-performance scooter that can handle both city roads and rougher terrain.

However, due to its weight and size when folded, it's not the most convenient for those who require portability above all else. The long charging time might also be a drawback for some, but for those who plan their rides, it's a small compromise for the incredible range the OXO offers.

If you're on the market for a top-tier electric scooter that can take you further and faster while ensuring a smooth and comfortable ride, the Inokim OXO should be at the top of your list. Just remember to gear up, stay safe, and respect the speed this beast can achieve.

Update After Six Months of Ownership

Six months down the line, and the Inokim OXO still impresses with its robust performance and reliability. However, with extended use, a few nuanced observations have surfaced.

Positive Attributes:

  • Durability: The OXO's build quality hasn't disappointed. Despite regular use on varied terrains, its sturdy frame and components have stood the test of time without any significant wear.

  • Performance Consistency: The dual motors and battery efficiency have remained top-notch, with no noticeable decrease in power or range, which is often a concern with electric vehicles over time.

Negative Attributes:

  • Weight and Portability: As noted, its weight continues to be a challenge. The bulk makes it less ideal for those who may need to carry it upstairs or onto public transport.

  • Maintenance: While generally low-maintenance, the hydraulic brakes and suspension require regular checks and occasional adjustments to keep them performing optimally, which might be intimidating for non-tech-savvy users.

In conclusion, my extended time with the OXO has only solidified my positive view of it, reaffirming its status as a high-performing, durable scooter, albeit with considerations regarding portability and maintenance that prospective buyers should weigh.
