Kaabo Skywalker 10S Electric Scooter Review

As an electric scooter enthusiast, I was excited to put the Kaabo Skywalker 10S to the test, given its buzz in the e-scooter community for its power and stability combination. After spending a significant amount of time commuting and adventuring with this ride, I'm keen to share my experiences.

Build Quality and Design

On unboxing the Kaabo Skywalker 10S, the first thing that struck me was the build quality. The scooter boasts an aluminum alloy frame that is both sturdy and lightweight, tipping the scales at around 22 kg (48.5 lbs). The folding mechanism is a standout feature for me. It's robust and intuitive, requiring just a flick to secure the stem in place, which conveniently avoids any wobbling during rides.

Performance and Speed

The 10S is powered by an 800W brushless motor, and I could instantly feel that power when I hit the throttle. The acceleration is smooth yet assertive, taking me up to its top speed of 40 km/h (25 mph) with ease. Riding on flat terrain is a breeze, and I was pleasantly surprised by its performance on inclines, managing slopes of about 25% without significant loss of power or speed.

Range and Battery

Equipped with a 52V, 18.2aH battery, the Skywalker 10S offers a range of approximately 50 km (31 miles) on a single charge. From my experience, this holds true when riding at moderate speeds, but heavy throttle use and hilly conditions will drain the battery faster. Charging time falls around 6 hours, which means you can easily charge it overnight for a full day's use.

Ride Comfort

What is truly impressive about this e-scooter is the ride comfort. The 10-inch pneumatic tires work hand-in-hand with dual spring suspension, which significantly dampens the shocks from uneven surfaces. Whether I was dodging potholes in the city or cruising on less manicured paths, the Skywalker 10S maintained a level of comfort that makes longer rides pleasurable rather than punishing.

Braking System

The dual disc brakes provide authentic stopping power. I found the brakes to be highly responsive, bringing the scooter to a smooth and reliable stop, even from high speeds. The inclusion of an anti-lock braking system (ABS) option is a nice touch, though I personally prefer it turned off for a more direct braking feel.

Portability

The folding mechanism is practical, but the scooter's weight might be a challenge for some when it comes to portability. Despite that, once folded, it's compact enough to comfortably fit into a car trunk or take on public transport, providing the user has the strength to lift and maneuver it.

Lighting

Safety becomes a concern when riding at night, but the 10S has this covered with its front LED light and rear brake light. The front light casts a beam ample enough for visibility, though I would still recommend additional lighting if you plan on riding through poorly lit areas.

Other Features

The LCD display is bright and easy to read, giving you clear information on your speed, battery level, and ride mode. The addition of a horn and kickstand might seem like minor details, but they enhance the overall practicality of the scooter.

Conclusion

In summary, the Kaabo Skywalker 10S left me impressed. It's a formidable contender in the mid-tier electric scooter market, offering a blend of power, comfort, and durability. It's not without its downsides, such as the weight, which impacts its portability, and the lack of an IP waterproof rating which can be a concern in unpredictable weather conditions.

However, if you're after a reliable commuter scooter that can double as a weekend thrill-seeker, the Skywalker 10S is a strong choice. It's as comfortable zipping through urban environments as it is tackling more adventurous terrains, making it a versatile option for a wide range of users.

Pros:

  • Robust build quality and reliable folding mechanism

  • Assertive acceleration and top speed

  • Impressive range for city commuting and beyond

  • Comfortable ride with pneumatic tires and dual suspension

  • Responsive dual disc brake system

Cons:

  • Weight may challenge portability for some users

  • Charging time could be lengthy for some

  • Lack of a formal IP waterproof rating

Update After Extended Use (6+ Months)

Having used the Kaabo Skywalker 10S for over six months now, I've had ample opportunity to thoroughly assess its long-term viability. Overall, the scooter continues to perform admirably, though it has developed a few quirks.

Positive Attributes:

  • Longevity: The build quality has lived up to expectations, showing minimal signs of wear even with frequent use.

  • Battery Life: The battery retention is commendable, with only a slight decrease in maximum range noticeable over time.

Negative Attributes:

  • Suspension Stiffness: Over time, the suspension has become slightly stiffer, which affects the smoothness of the ride on very uneven surfaces.

  • Maintenance: Regular maintenance is becoming increasingly necessary, especially around the brakes and tires, to keep the scooter at peak performance.

In summary, my extended usage reaffirms the durability and reliability of the Kaabo Skywalker 10S, making it a solid investment for anyone looking for a long-term e-scooter solution. While regular maintenance and awareness of component wear are necessary, the overall performance remains strong.

I'd rate the Kaabo Skywalker 10S a solid 4.2 out of 5 stars, making it a scooter worth considering for those seeking both performance and comfort. Happy scooting!
